Naseeruddin Shah

 Naseeruddin Shah Born in 1950 and educated at the National School of Drama in Delhi, Naseeruddin Shah is now one of the icons of New Indian Cinema and is arguably one of the finest actors in the world today. He has gained a fair amount of success in commercial cinema too. Naseeruddin Shah's first film was Shyam Benegal's Nishant (1975). �His other notable films include Shyam Benegal's Manthan and Bhumika (1976), Saeed Mirza's Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyon Aata Hai (1980), Mrinal Sen�s Khandhar (1983) and Sai Paranjpye�s Sparsh (1979). His comedy roles in films like Mandi, Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron and Mohan Joshi Hazir Ho (1983) have endeared him to the Indian public. Naseeruddin Shah has also played and directed English and Hindi plays. His first mainstream hit movie was Jalwa. With his wife Ratna Pathak, Naseeruddin Shah continues to act regularly in plays, often at Shashi Kapoor's Prithvi Theatre. His portrayal of Gandhi in Mahatma Vs. Gandhi and his role in the Monsoon Wedding earned him great laurels. Naseeruddin Shah won the best actor award at the Venice Film Festival for Paar and the National Award twice for Sparsh and Paar. The veteran actor, turned director with a film based on a story by Ismat Chugtai.�
